Soap shakers or soap cages are popular again as people look for a low waste, detergent free alternative to doing the dishes by hand. It can also be used any where you are making soapy water for cleaning. This could be in the laundry for hand washing woollens in a bucket or tub.
The handle can be used to hang up the soap shaker between uses.

Place bar soap into cage. Hold the handle and swish soap under hot tap as the sink fills until water changes colour and feels slippery when you rub your fingers together under the water. You want to aim for water that is just slippery, and not more. This way you won’t over use your soap and it will last longer. Expect suds, but fewer bubbles than detergent. Do not leave bar soap and cage submerged under water – allow the bar soap to dry out completely between uses!
