Figgy soap is NZ made on the Kapiti Coast With Love

Our castile soap is hand-made from scratch using our own special recipe. We use only traditional soap making methods - no big machines, and no short cuts. We combine clay filtered coconut oil with potassium lye in our soap cooking kettle (Called Figgero) at our Paraparaumu workshop. Each batch is days in the making and the end result is a home cleaning HERO!. We've purposely made our castile soap to be concentrated, that gives you more options. You can dilute it or use it neat, which makes it easy to reach for no matter the cleaning. And it's an absolute pleasure to clean with, it won't dry your skin, make your eyes water or trigger your asthma. Soap really is where effectiveness meets gentle.

  • All natural, pure soap
  • Free from detergent, fragrance, dyes, palm oil and additives
  • Septic tank and waterway safe
  • Safe for eczema, asthma, allergies or sensitivities

Available in a 500ml glass bottle or 1L and 5L litre options (HDPE, kerbside recyclable NZ wide)

Made from ingredients you recognise

Our Home Cleaning Castile Soap is our own special recipe. Made to easily tackle all the cleaning jobs, without any fuss while getting great results. At every step of our formulating we knew our multipurpose cleaner must be gentle on you, safe for your household and kind to our planet. The only way you can get all this is by focusing on ingredients and the health of people.

Ingredients: 100% Soap (distilled water, coconut oil, lye, and citric acid as pH buffer when required).

Free from: detergent, fragrance, dyes, palm oil, petroleum products and additives.

Spray it, mix it, use it straight from the bottle

Purposefully made for all your home cleaning tasks, we wanted to make your cleaning easy. With multiple uses, this is a go to cleaner that gets all the jobs done!

Mopping & large surfaces: Add 1-2 tablespoons per bucket of warm water. Use to mop, and wipe down and wash any hard surfaces. Great to use for floors, walls, ceilings, skirting boards and windows.

General purpose: Add 1 teaspoon to 500ml of water in a trigger bottle. Use as a general-purpose cleaner around the home including cleaning fly spots. For bigger & sticky messes like the oily dust on the rangehood use 2 teaspoons in 500ml.

Dishes: Add 10-15 mls into hot water for handwashing dishes. or 1-2 teaspoons directly into a roast pan or pot to be washed

Spot cleaning: Use neat on a damp cloth for spot cleaning walls and carpet. This will lift blood, vivid, ink and grass – and even the dog poo ‘someone’ walked in!

Washing & laundry: Use 15-30ml to hand wash your woollens & delicates in the tub or bucket of warm water. Use neat on stains like pasta sauce and blood.

Foaming hand soap: Using a foaming soap dispenser, mix 30-100mls soap into a 300ml bottle with water. Add 6-10 drops of Essential oils if desired. More soap makes a thicker foam. For dry, recovering hands, or if you wash your hands a lot (bubs in nappies) add 5ml glycerine also.

Toilet bowl:  Add  1/2 to 1 teaspoon directly into the toilet bowl and scrub.

Baby wipes: Add 1 teaspoon soap to 500ml water. Make you mix each morning, dip a reusable cloth into the soapy water, squeeze out excess water, use a required. This is a wonderful alternative to baby wipes.

It’s hard to find home cleaners free from palm oil

We choose to use Blue Coconut, food-grade coconut oil as the base ingredient for our soap making.

What we like about Blue Coconut is that the oil is fair-trade. This means the farmers get a fair price from what they grow. A fair price for farmers can lift whole communities out of poverty.

We also love Blue Coconut’s transparency. We can trace every batch of coconut oil we use to the Pacific island it was grown, harvested and fairly traded from. How cool is that!

Blue Coconut is committed to purity. The raw coconut oil travels from the near Pacific Islands to Christchurch where it is filtered using clay filters. Using clay for filtering is a game changer. Processing coconut oil normally uses chemicals to strip out impurities, using clay instead bypasses the need for these chemicals and avoids contamination.

Our soaps are a vote to protect the Orangutangs. There are 2 oils that make the best soaps (and detergents) for cleaning. Coconut oil and Palm oil. Palm oil is used in almost all cleaning products because it’s cheap and because its grown in third world countries, exploitation is rife. Palm oil supports rainforests being destroyed. This is a total insult on our planet and leads to the extinction of plants, animals and critters. The choice was easy – NO palm oil.

FAQ's

Yes, our soap is ideal for all your DIY home cleaning products. Check out our recipe booklet (print or digital) and snag our best recipes to get started!

Our castile soap is fragrance free – which is perfect if you prefer a less scentsy life! It’s made from coconut oil but doesn’t smell like coconut. It has a very mild soap smell.

This is good news if you do like a nice smell while you clean. It can be your blank canvas to add a few drops of essential oils or blend of oils of your choosing!

It is best not to mix soap and vinegar. They are opposite on the pH scale. The vinegar will in effect reduce the soap back to the oil it’s made from – and coconut oil is not known for it’s cleaning greatness!

Stick to cleaning with soap and rinsing or doing a final wipe over with vinegar.

Yes this is such a great swap out! Check out our blog all about it!

Yes, make your cleaning solution up as 10ml per litre of water. Add a drop or two of your favourite Essential oil too!

No, steam cleaners can only be filled with plain water.
